ADAM ARCURAGI & SPURS
ADAM ARCURAGI & SPURS
Like a fire that consumes all before it was recorded mostly live with producer Duane Lundy (Jim James, Daniel Martin Moore, Ben Sollee) over a 12 day period at his Lexington, Kentucky studio. The recording process was inspired by Phil Spector era recordings and early twentieth century folk songs and hymns, such as on the compilation Goodbye Babylon; to capture the sound of the space with all of the voices and instruments mixing together. The album's title is not only a line from The Illiad but also the name of Arcuragi's favorite Cy Twombly painting.

The album was tracked with the rotating cast of musicians that make up The Lupine Chorale Society, with the current installment consisting of Jack Carter, Harrison Barrow, Matt Luyk and Andrew Gerhan. Previous incantations of The Society have included members of the bands War on Drugs, These United States and Rogue Wave.

Born in Georgia, Arcuragi (pronounced ärk; er; ā; jēe) grew up listening to his grandparent's collection of old country records and Southern hymns, while wearing out cassette tapes of Bob Dylan and The Beatles. Arcuragi's self titled debut was released in 2006 and was followed up by I am become joy in 2009. All Music Guide states, "There is unbridled joy inherent in even the saddest of these songs, and unforgettable images in almost every verse" while The Washington Post said of the bands live dates "If you want to see Troubadouring done right, its your duty to catch Arcuragi."

U.S. ROYALTY
U.S. ROYALTY
From the bluesy swagger of the album opener "Hollywood Hollows" to the soaring, Washington Irving inspired anthem "Equestrian," it is evident that MIRRORS, the debut full length from U.S. Royalty, is an album of grand scope and range. It is a document of exploration and discovery. Songs kindle a spectrum of locales as the band laces a thread of longing and movement throughout the entire album to create a cinematic experience. MIRRORS is a cohesive and unified collection.

In March 2010, the band teamed up with engineer Gus Oberg (The Strokes, Albert Hammond Jr., Bloc Party) and Justin Long to begin recording the album. While in the studio, as a vision of the album began to come into focus, old songs were dropped in favor of new songs being written. The band recently released the first single off the album, "Equestrian," and set a release date for the debut album, January 25th 2011.
YOUNG EVILS
YOUNG EVILS
The Young Evils are Troy Nelson (guitar/vocals) and Mackenzie Mercer (vocals) with: Cody Hurd (guitar), Michael Lee (bass) and Faustine Hudson (drums). The Seattle-based band self-released their debut album, "Enchanted Chapel," produced by Barrett Jones (Nirvana, The Melvins, Pussy Galore) in August 2010. "A Just Built Beaming Light" was selected by KEXP 90.3 as Song of the Day on Aug. 20, 2010, and NPR selected "Get Over It" as Song of the Day Oct. 25, 2010.
PEACHCAKE
THE TERROR PIGEON DANCE REVOLT!
THE TERROR PIGEON DANCE REVOLT!
Terror Pigeon Dance Revolt is a visual performance, soul- infused party band started in 2005 by college classmates Neil Fridd and Jesse Cooper Levy in New Paltz, New York. Their show consists of lights, costumes (e.g. a suit of stuffed animals), loud party music and audience participation. Terror Pigeon Dance Revolt is currently on a cross- country American tour which will include a stop in Austin, where for the March 17 SXSW performance they play at 2:45 pm, "Right after Metallica". The band is releasing their debut L.P., "I LOVE YOU! I LOVE YOU! I LOVE YOU AND I'M IN LOVE WITH YOU! HAVE AN AWESOME DAY! HAVE THE BEST DAY OF YOUR LIFE!!" on Luakabop Records.
NETHERFRIENDS
NETHERFRIENDS
The artful psych-pop produced by Chicago's Netherfriends is a swirling stew of cheap synthesizer sheen, kitchenware percussion and atmospheric vocal chants — which creates a feeling of constant motion that makes for great ear candy (especially through headphones). The moody soundscapes incorporated on the unreleased track "Worean Kar" call to mind some sort of fictional foreign land where mysterious characters lurk in the shadows. Blissful layers of reverb-laden keyboards and gently floating background vocals provide an eerily disconnected, dreamlike ending to the song. But energetic drumming, dense sonic layers and catchy vocal melodies make this experimental trio sound like a much larger ensemble when it plays live. -Riverfront Times

SOLANDER
SOLANDER
Solander is a Swedish inventive trio making pop music with a folky touch and a playful approach. With the starting point in the Malmö underground scene, Solander emerged with its debut album “Since We Are Pigeons” in the fall of 2009 and toured extensively throughout the next year. In the winter of 2011 they finally had time to enter the studio again to record their long awaited sophomore album.
The songs we hear on “Passing Mt. Satu” differ a lot from each other and the impact of a lot of different influences is very clear. But everything is tightly bound together by the characteristic voice and picking guitar of Fredrik Karlsson, the personal and innovative playing of newcomer cellist Anja Linna and the driven rhythm section handled by Mikael Persson, former drummer of Scraps Of Tape. In addition to this there are also some unconventional banjo playing, prepared metallophones, haunting organs, distorted hand-claps, pianos, music-boxes and lots of other goodies spread out over the album.
